PostSubject: Drafting methods   Drafting methods Empty14th March 2017, 4:38 pm

I suggest we gather in this topic the drafting options we (will) use for MB:P

For my part I was thinking of this :

Randomly prepare 4 stacks (visible face up) for 1vs1 :
- 4 Divinities recruitment cards (6)
- 6 Monsters recruitment cards (Cool
- 6 Heroes recruitment cards (Cool
- 6 troops recruitment cards* (6)
(numbers in parenthesis for 3-4 players)
Players can they freely choose among these until their RP are exhausted (normal draft rules).
As always, if you cannot recruit anymore, you get Omphalos cards for unspent RP.

*Excluding troops attached to a God or to Arachne/Scylla.

What I really want to try as a casual and fun way to draft is to take as many cards as wanted, sort them by RP cost and by God-titan/other units. Then we make a face down pile for each stack of cards, so that we have :

- Gods and Titans
-5 Rp units
-4 Rp units
-3 RP units
-2 RP units
-1 RP units.

Each player picks randomly a God (or Titan), then determines how much RP he will have available depending on what God (or Titan...) he has. The God pile is set aside, and then turn by turn each player picks blindly in the pile he wants, until all RPs are spent...

Really geeky here... I'm probably going to write a simple macro or app that generates character pools. In addition to randomizing characters I might add entire criteria like small/medium/large pool, heroes/monsters only, no big (4 or 5 rp units).

The other plan I want to run is a best of 7 series - with each character only available once.

That sounds really cool. :-)

My idea of an original drafting method:

1/ We gather the following recruitment cards (for a 2 vs 2 game):
- 8 divinities
- 10-12 monsters (I didn't really think in details on the perfect number)
- 10-12 heroes
- 10-12 troops

2/ We shuffle all the cards, then create 4 hands of the same number of cards.

3/ each player receives a hand of cards, hidden from the other players, and chooses one of them, then gives the hand to the player at the left

4/ step 3/ continues until all the cards have been drafted.
Only one rule: a player cannot choose more than 2 divinities.

5/ players constitute their army with 14 RP, including 1 divinity, all chosen by the cards drafted.

6/ Let's begin the game with these armies !

It already exists... and it is a must-have (or a must-know or a must-use ^^)

De notre côté, pour l'instant on a fait ça en 2v2 : Pool de 8 divinités, 8 troupes et 42 pts minimum de monstres/héros dont 2 gardiens minimum.

Another interesting method, for those who knows Abyss :
- Shuffle all cards in a deck, face not visible.
- First player can draw 1 to 4 cards. He chooses one and let the remaining cards (if any) visible.
- Next player can take a visible card OR do the same (draw 1 to 4 cards, keep one and let the others visible).

But as it is too hazardous this way, I would adapt the system for MB:P :
- Make a deck with gods / titans.
- Make a deck with each RP value (pile of 5, pile of 4, ... pile of 1)
- Apply the above method, but each deck is managed independently. So players choose first in the god's deck. And then, in reverse order, players choose in the other decks, depending on the RP value they want.

Ok, it is not the simpliest way to draft your team (and probably not the most balanced), but it can be fun.  Twisted Evil

One of the fun things about MBP is that you can change the challenge enormously just by messing about with the army recruitment. What's available, whether it's choice or random draws, and so on.

Looking forward to trying some of these suggestions.
