Variants for Army Drafting -- Secret Draft -- Random Draft Empty
PostSubject: Variants for Army Drafting -- Secret Draft -- Random Draft   Variants for Army Drafting -- Secret Draft -- Random Draft Empty18th January 2017, 4:30 pm

Here are some (early) ideas for "spicing up" the army drafting a little. Smile

The regular game uses an open draft, where all Gods/Titans, Monsters, Heroes and Troops are up for grabs.

Kickstarter User "Selkares" had the nice idea, that you could use the Activation cards to pre-select the options, in order to have some different setups. Just draw a certain number of each type (i.e. for a 2-player game that could be 4 Gods/Titans, 4 Monsters, 5 Heroes, 6 Troops -- which is the amount from the core box) before the draft, and those are the only choices available during the draft.

This gave me the idea, that you could use those Activation cards for a secret draft.

Note: The nice Recruitment Cards will be ideal for this (even better than using the Activation Cards).

Variant 1) Secret Draft

Step 1: Draft Gods/Titans (as normal)

Step 2: Prepare draft stacks with random Monster and Hero Activation cards. Depending on the player number and the available RP.

For a 2-player game with 12 RP, I would use 4 random Monsters and 8 random Heroes for each stack. Each player would draft 6 cards. Additionally, before passing cards to the next player, shuffle the remaining stack and remove one random card from it. Discard that card (face-down), it is no longer available. This is, so you do not exactly know what your opponent is drafting after the initial card pick.

For a 4-player game with 8 RP, I would use 2 random Monsters and 3 random Heroes for each stack. Each player would draft 4 cards (1 would be left over from each stack after the draft).

Then, each player gets one such stack of cards to draft from, looks at it, selects one card secretly and puts it aside (face-down). The remaining cards are given to the next player (clockwise), and another card is drafted and put aside (face-down). This repeats, until every player has set aside (or drafted) a certain number of cards (i.e. 1 card per 2 available RP). The set aside cards are used in step 4. Any remaining cards are discarded (face-down) and not used.

Step 3: Draft Troops (as normal, but in reverse order in which Gods/Titans were drafted). You do not have to draft any Troops, but if you do, you have to use them. You can draft as many Troops as you want (no more than the available RP, obviously).

Step 4: Players build their Armies. You have to use the drafted God and all drafted Troops. Then you add any Monsters and Heroes you want to use from the secretly drafted cards (step 2) until you have reached your full RP. Discard any remaining cards.

Step 5: Players reveal their armies and play! Smile

Variant 2) Random Draft

Step 1: Shuffle one of each God/Titan Activation card into a stack. Deal one card face-down to each player.

Step 2: Shuffle one of each Monster Activation card into a stack. Deal one card per 4 RP (or fraction there-of) face-down to each player.

Step 3: Shuffle one of each Hero Activation card into a stack. Deal one card per 3 RP (or fraction there-of) face-down to each player.

Step 4: Players now secretly select, which Monsters and Heroes they are going to use (up to the available RP). Discard any unused cards (face-down).

Step 5: Players announce, how much RP they have left over for Troops. Shuffle one of each Troop Activation card into a stack. Deal one card face-down for every left-over RP to each player, plus one (or two) extra card per player.

Step 6: Players now secretly select, which Troops they are going to use (to fill the remaining RP). Discard any unused cards.

Step 7: Players reveal their armies and play! Smile

RP are Recruitment Points, every unit has a certain cost in RP and you have a certain total amount of RP to build your army with.
