I think it would be really cool and would actually work to take planeswalkers and other popular characters and creatures from Magic and implement them in Mythic Battles. There is so much great fantasy content that could easily be converted into the MB system. Using the planeswalkers like gods and then creating your army consisting of creatures from all across the Magic multiverse.

For example, Gideon would obviously have the talents Guard and Phalanx with a couple powers that reflect his abilities in Magic. His indestructibility could be a beefed up Achilles power but he cancels 2 damage instead of 1. Chandra could throw fireballs, Liliana could raise zombies, Nissa could summon plants and elementals and might work like Gaia with her roots. Jace could let you filter the cards you draw and confuse enemies.

For a big Magic fan like me, the idea of being able to use all those characters and creatures in an arena setting with actual movement and positioning supported by great combat mechanics makes me giddy. :-)

What are your thoughts? Any more Magic fans here who could see this working as something fans work on and design together?

Never played MTG myself but it's great that people are thinking about the possibilities available to them. You should start posting up dashboards and proxy miniatures to be used in your MTG version of MB:P Smile

I was actually thinking the other way aound: to give units in MB:P a colour code like in M:tG. Perhaps not all 5 but say 3 or 4 + grey (for artifacts, Talos, mechanical warriors, mechanical bull and such).

Makes drafting easier (as the choice is smaller), decrease the chance of invulnerable combos (like Minos + Eurystheus) you simply put them into different colours) and gives some more theme.

I also thought about that for my Magic variant. Each planeswalker and creature has a color and whenever you recruit a creature that's a different color from your planeswalker you pay 1 extra RP for that creature. Maybe even differentiate between ally off-color and enemy off-color. The only thing that could make this difficult is multicolored planeswalkers and creatures. Maybe just fix it via balancing so multicolored planeswalkers are a bit weaker than their monocolored counterparts, but in exchange get to recruit two or more colors without paying extra RP. There are still some things to think about.

So the first unit I "translated" into MB:P is Gideon. In Magic, Gideon is white-aligned and your typical paladin. He fights for justice and has strong morals. When he employs his magic, he glows golden, becoming invulnerable for a moment. He wields a weapon called a sural, which you can think of as a four-bladed metal whip. In my version, the planeswalkers from Magic will be the gods in MB:P, except that they all have three powers rather than the usual two, because in Magic planeswalkers almost always have three abilities and I wanted to keep that. Also, some of the wording I use is Magic wording rather than MB:P wording because after so many years of reading and writing it I am much more comfortable with it. I hope it'll still be clear what I mean.

Gideon - Fiercely loyal, unyielding, just, and charismatic, Gideon Jura doesn't hesitate to enter combat to defend the innocent. A powerful warrior-mage with the ability to make himself invulnerable, he wields a four-bladed sural and hieromancy magic against his foes. A man of the people, he takes pride in leading his comrades towards the common good.

Activation Cards - 5

AoW Cards - 2

Talents - Guard, Leader, Mighty Throw

Stats - 8 attack, 8 defense, 1 range, 2 movement, 9 vitality

Powers -
Invulnerability: Instant, 1 AoW: The next time a unit would deal damage to Gideon this turn, prevent that damage. Use this ability only if Gideon is attacked, only before the attacking unit’s assault, and only once each turn. (The assault limitation is so you have to decide whether you want to activate this power BEFORE dice have been rolled. I don't want the Gideon player to have the option of waiting to see how strong that attack would end up being. The once each turn limitation is so you can't recruit a bunch of high AoW units and just make him invulnerable all the time.)

Sural Storm: Special Attack, 2 AoW: Gideon performs an X power attack against each of up to four units within 1 range. The defending units can't retaliate. (X starts at 8 )

Valiant Protector: Passive: Whenever a friendly unit in an area adjacent to Gideon is attacked, Gideon may move, if possible, to that area, guarding that unit.

Please let me know what you think, both regarding the design and the balancing. I'm very unsure regarding the balancing because I have zero experience with that for MB:P. I think the abilities are interesting though.
